Founded in 2003 as an independent initiative to archive Turkey’s experimental music heritage, and based on the principle of “sustainable documentation”, Kronovox Archives aims at bringing forgotten radio art works, unreleased concert recordings, lost or out-of-print albums, and various other cultural audio documents to light.

The text below, written by Craig McGregor, sheds light on the founding principles and aims of Kronovox Archives: “What we need to do at this point is create our own culture that reflects our common interest, not the interests of those who want to rule us. This will give us a chance to liberate ourselves. Achieving this, however difficult, is not impossible. A number of alternative cultures and solutions lie just below the superstructure institutions. By strengthening this dissenting culture, by understanding it, and by affirming it through our actions and reactions, we can disrupt the games of those who try to force us into submission. A popular music concept based on creating our own orchestras, writing our own songs, and making our own music inevitably emerges as a force against the existing and dominant cultural understanding.” (“Pop Goes to Culture”, 1987)
